there might be two things to consider!
first when i was not a christian but new born again! i prayed to be baptized with the holy spirit.
an angelic personage appeared in my bedroom my room and my mind was filled with complete white light. I believed i was baptized. many christians say it was satan. superstition? maybe.
When i came to know of the church and joseph smiths testimony, someone corrected me that I had not received the gift of the holy Ghost. Also another distinction! when president bensen was given a solemn assembly i refused to sustain him because i did not agree with something he said in a previous Gen Conf. While living with my dad and sleeping in the back of my van, i found the promise of the gift of the holyghost but recognized i had not received it. i humbled myself and did my own solemn "sustaining" of the pres and a spirit or aparation appeared behind me and layed his hands on my head and gave me a blessing. i subsequently received 3 visions of jesus. one of which i think was out of body the other 2 had the appearance of heaven in the presense of jesus.
why did i share this testimony! because there are now 3 different versions of the spirit of God, the gift of the holy Ghost being supreme over the other 2. the promise of the Holy Ghost is given to those that fulfil the new and everlasting covenant and despite temple ordinances and sealing the promise is not always guaranteed. so i assume that there is a 4th gift of the H.G.
