in droubt it is acceptable: agreed!
what about septic tanks not sewer! ???
i think that is agreable too.
if it smells yes.
cleaning the toilet is a daily chore with so many kids for sanitary needs.
even with one or two people once a month is pushing the sanitation.

jennifer:Only if you are in a drought condition.

I believe in saving water, but I don't want my bathroom to smell like a latrine. Plus, if 3 other people peed in the toilet, and I have "splashing" as my feces hits the water... umm... eww.

travis: Yeah for some families it's acceptable. I've know a lotta guys who had rules like don't flush for pee, only for turds and things like that. Water conservation probably.

We had a dog who drank out of the toilet so we had to flush every time AND remember to keep the lid and seat up.

jes:I live in georgia with my bf and we often dont flush No.1

Then again, we're in a drought, so it's just good for the environment to wait for a BM or for the toilet paper to build up

olan black: it is not really unusual. they have a drought conditions here in North Carolina, so the saying is "if yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down. exceptions are if it starts to stink, or just looks really yellow like somebody hasn't drank water in days

alliesmom: I don't think I'd be able to handle that. Even if you have a lot of kids, I think that's just gross...My niece and nephew, who are like 9 and 13 NEVER flush the toliet no matter what they do in it. Oh my goodness, I get sooo mad when I come along and find an unflushed toliet. Okay, if they were like 3 or 4, I might understand, but it seems like they are way too old for that.

Wouldn't your bathroom start to stink? So did your family do this growing up? What did you do if you had company?

Who knows? I might feel differently if I was the parent of 10-12 kids...

latj: OK, this is the etiquette section so I am going to answer from that point of view. It is absoluetly not acceptable not to NOT flush the toliet after each use unless there is some type of GOVERNMENT DROUGHT RELATED ISSUE. Flushing is there for sanitary reasons. I have never heard of such. Maybe there is a reason I haven't heard of but it would seem quite unsanitary and wrong.
If you are a foster child and this is bothering you, isn't there someone at school or someone you can tell this to? This does bother me. It just doesn't seem right. Sewage water isn't charged by the number of times you flush a toliet.
I could be wrong, but this doesn't seem like a sanitary condition.

rabia0623: If it's brown, flush it down; it's it's yellow let it mellow!

This has worked just fine for my family. Just remember to flush before company comes and no one will ever have to know.

curious: this question is never asked for a reason...must everything be discussed???

answerer: Always flush the toilet after you deposit something. Uneconomical for the water? Perhaps, but that's far less drastic than someone using the toilet and having some unfriendly foreign substance come splashing upon their backside. If you've ever used a Port-o-John you know exactly what I'm talking about. No matter what kind of cleaner that nasty blue water is made of. The defecation backsplash is horrifically life changing.

ms4peace: Ewwwwww No! At one point there were 9- 10 of us living together but we all flushed after each use...

shakes: totally, but with that many people I would do it a few more times than that, just sanatize daily. we do that and i clean the bowl everynight with a green safe cleaner.
if it's yellow let it mellow.
